How do I get there?

Will my phone work in Nepal?
Your mobile phone will pretty much work everywhere on this trip if you are with Telstra and it’s activated for global roaming. You can also grab a SIM card at the airport on arrival or close by your hotel in Thamel.

Do I need to bring cash with me?
The local currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee. ATM’s are everywhere in Kathmandu, but we’d suggest you travel with a bit of cash as well?  Australian dollars are fine. Credit cards are accepted all over Kathmandu.

What can I do before or after this trip?
If you wish to arrive in Nepal before your trip, or do something or afterwards we are always ready to assist. If it’s flights to Lukla to do the Everest trip on your own, a guide to take you to the Annapurna region, a jungle safari in Chitwan, just let us know and we’ll be able to help you out.

How do I get a Visa?
You can easily get a visa on arrival in Kathmandu. Either for 15 or 30 days. Just have some AUD cash on hand when coming into Kathmandu.

Is it safe?
Absolutely. World Horizons ensures top-tier safety on all our school trips, including grad trips to Nepal. From departure to return, our team provides full support and guidance. In Nepal, we work with trusted local providers and carefully chosen accommodations to prioritize safety. Our experienced staff accompany the group throughout, with a well-planned itinerary and robust health and safety measures. We also provide 24/7 support for both students and parents, offering peace of mind while young travelers enjoy a life-enriching adventure.

Your trip day by day ...

You’ll meet your World Horizons trip leader at the airport in Australia — they’ll be travelling with you all the way to Kathmandu and back home at the end of the trip. Your flight departs at 10:00 AM and lands in Kathmandu at 10:20 PM.

Once you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, the rest of the World Horizons team will be waiting just outside the arrivals hall. From there, you’ll head straight to your guesthouse in the lively Thamel district — the heart of the city’s backpacker scene.

After you’ve had a chance to settle in, it’s time to explore! Thamel is full of great places to eat, shop, and soak up the atmosphere. Tonight, we’ve organised a welcome dinner at a local restaurant where you’ll get to meet your fellow travellers. Your World Horizons guide will also run through some handy tips to help you stay safe and make the most of your time in Nepal.

Hold on to your hats, folks, because your adventure is about to begin! Get ready to immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayan mountains as you embark on an epic trek. The journey kicks off with a thrilling passage through the charming Tamang village of Parangse, where you’ll witness the locals’ daily life and customs. You’ll then proceed towards Lokil, where you’ll take a much-needed break and have a delicious lunch. After lunch, you’ll continue your trek for another 2 hours to your campsite for the night, surrounded by stunning views of the mountains. It’s going to be an unforgettable journey, so get your hiking boots ready and let’s go!

Today’s walk will take you through a network of ancient pathways that have been used for centuries by local villagers to transport their cattle to higher pastures during the summer months. As you trek through this scenic landscape, you’ll be surrounded by jaw-dropping views that will take your breath away. The hike will lead you to the enchanting high-camp of Labung, where you’ll arrive by mid-afternoon. And boy, are you in for a treat! The views from this elevated location are simply spectacular, offering panoramic vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. Get ready to be amazed and let the beauty of the Himalayas overwhelm you. This is an experience you won’t soon forget!

This morning, you’ll be treated to the most awe-inspiring views of the majestic Himalayan mountain range. You’ll witness the grandeur of Shisapangma, the only 8000-metre peak that sits entirely within the borders of Tibet, as well as other peaks in the main range that will leave you breathless. From our high camp, we’ll head back down to the lunch stop at Nahachowk, where you’ll have a chance to refuel and rest your feet. But the adventure doesn’t end there! After lunch, you’ll embark on a lovely stroll that will take you to your campsite at Bhaisi Kharka. Keep your cameras at the ready, because the views along the way are simply stunning.

Get ready for a peaceful and scenic two-hour walk as we make our way down to the charming village of Bittang, where a quaint Buddhist Monastery sits atop the ridge. And guess what? Your World Horizons trek leader, Kami Saki Lama, will perform a special Buddhist ritual called a Puja to bless your journey ahead. It’s a highlight of the trip for many, and you won’t want to miss it!

Once we’re filled with the spiritual energy of the monastery, we’ll make our way to Jhib Jhibe for a tasty lunch surrounded by the beautiful Farmhouse scenery. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning views.

Later on, your friendly host Gagan will help you give a special thank-you to your amazing trek staff. You’ll hand over the tips collected in Kathmandu in a fun and enjoyable ceremony. It’s a simple but meaningful way to show your appreciation for all they’ve done to make this trip unforgettable.

Today’s all about getting your hands dirty (in the best way) and soaking up the real rhythm of village life. You’ll visit the local school, lend a hand around the village, meet the goats, and learn how the farm runs — Nepali-style.

Expect big smiles, plenty of laughs, and a chance to connect with locals in a way that’s real and unforgettable. You might end up helping with a harvest, feeding animals, or even kicking a soccer ball with the kids. Whatever the day brings, it’s going to be a good one.

Today marks the end of your unforgettable journey in the village of Jhib Jhibe. As we bid farewell to this picturesque place, you’ll hop on a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. After an exciting adventure filled with breathtaking views and unforgettable memories, it’s time to head back to our comfortable guesthouse. It’s time for a late lunch and some well-deserved downtime to recharge your batteries and reflect on all the amazing experiences you’ve had.

We’ll meet up later in the evening for a special farewell meal, reminiscing about all the amazing moments we’ve shared together on this epic journey. It’s a bittersweet moment, but we’ll savor every last minute of it, cherishing the memories that will stay with us for a lifetime.
